Fans are waiting in anticipation as the Sonic the Hedgehog official twitter announces the world premiere of a new trailer for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie. Along with a fiery poster featuring Jim Carrey fully immersed in his role as the iconic villain Dr. Eggman, and equally iconic duo Sonic and Tails soaring away from danger!
According to the post, the trailer has been confirmed to show at tomorrow’s Game Awards 8pm ET/1am GMT, much to the inconvenience of any European Sonic fans. The studio so far has released a 10 second teaser and announced who will be voice acting for the main cast. This includes Idris Elba who will be assuming the role of the gruff and tough Knuckles the Echidna, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey who will be voicing the humble and sweet Miles “Tails” Prower. The movie is set to be an exciting sequel, setting the foundation for what will hopefully progress into the full Sonic roster being portrayed on the big screen.
After the infamous initial response to Sonic’s nightmare inducing first design, Paramount Studios had managed to turn public perception around and the first Sonic movie was met with overall positive reception. The movie had a mostly serviceable story but the scene choreography definitely surpassed expectation with its creativity and exhilarating composition. With that in mind, Paramount have shown a precedent of listening to fan critique and respecting the source material and so needless to say, Sonic fans are optimistic as to what the new trailer will reveal at tomorrow’s Game Awards. Millions of eyes will be on the event as videogame fans worldwide will be waiting to see if their favourite videogames are going receive the accolades they (or perhaps do not) deserve.
