In the latest line of celebrities being paid an extortionate amount of money to endorse Nintendo’s console, singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera has taken to the virtual stage in order to promote Switch games in a manner that is anything other than natural.
While we’ve previously seen the likes of Jessica Alba and Brie Larson emote more times than is emotionally possible when playing Fortnite (but is somehow still more engaging than Captain Marvel or Killers Anonymous), Aguilera’s starring advertisement is….essentially no different.

However, while her commercial contains the same old tropes of loving families playing games and saying things that no human would ever say when playing games, a recent interview with Elle revealed much more interesting tidbits, particularly her fondness for a certain mischievous man.
In the interview, Aguilera details her love for Mario Kart and Mario Party, but more importantly, shares her love for the characters that should be embraced in everyone’s hearts; Wario and Waluigi!
It depends on the game, to be honest. Again, the Mario Partys[sic] and the Mario Karts, me and my sister have always enjoyed in the past going as the brother kind of characters, and I’m Wario, she’s Waluigi. We love to do the voices. They get really silly. So we definitely love those.

While her heavily staged commercial leaves much to be desired, we can’t fault Aguilera when it comes to her impeccable taste in mustachioed Italian men. Adorably, she details doing impressions of the iconic purple duo with her sister, and who can blame them? After all, who doesn’t love to recreate the blessed friendship between everyone’s favourite double-dealing do-badders? (move aside Dastardly & Muttley)
While Nintendo may not love Waluigi, it’s fans like us and Aguilera who keep the spark for the lanky purple boy alive and well! Now with this unexpected celebrity endorsement for Waluigi, we can’t wait for next month when Dwayne the Rock Johnson announces his love for Sukapon!

I could delve into the many other details in Aguilera’s interview, such as how she got a chance to try Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but let’s be honest, nothing could ever top advocacy for purple supremacy!
Do you too share Aguilera’s love for Waluigi? Do you play any of the games that she does? Let us know in the comments below, and remember to check out her full interview here!
