Ubisoft Forward – the latest announcements on Ubisoft titles

Ubisoft holds showcase, Ubisoft Forward, over the weekend to give updates on upcoming games

ubisoft forward

Ubisoft held their Ubisoft Forward event on September 10th, with new updates to the company’s upcoming titles. Some new, some already announced, and some leaked, here’s what Ubisoft showed off.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

The showcase started with the sequel to 2017’s turn-based tactical game Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Sparks of Hope is similarly a real-time strategy that looks to build on its predecessor. The trailer focuses on a boss battle and shows off some of the game’s new features. Primarily are the titular Sparks, which you can give two of to each character which give special powers and stat boosts. You can watch the full fight down below:

On top of this, it was announced that the game will get additional content in 2023. This will be 3 DLCs, the third of which will feature Rayman, one of Ubisoft’s most iconic characters.

Skull and Bones

The upcoming ship-battle game Skull and Bones got a story and a gameplay trailer. The story trailer sets the scene and puts the game at the end of the 17th century. As governments fight for control of exotic goods, pirates fight to steal such goods and turn a profit. Meanwhile, the gameplay trailer shows the ways you can customize your ships, the weapons you can use, and the kind of enemies you’ll be going up against. You can watch the gameplay trailer below:

The Division

Two new games in The Division franchise were shown off. The first is a free-to-play survival shooter called Heartland. Set in a small town in middle-America, the game has “streamlined survival gameplay” (though what that means wasn’t really explained). Next is a mobile game called Resurgance that is based around the Dark Zone, the PvPvE area from the main games.

Netflix

Next up at Ubisoft Forward, Netflix vice president Mike Verdu announced a partnership with Ubisoft. As part of the partnership, the company is making a live-action Assassin’s Creed series and, on top of that, Ubisoft is making three games that will be exclusive to Netflix subscribers. These games are Valiant Hearts 2, the second installment of Mighty Quest, and an Assassin’s Creed mobile game. Verdu also confirmed that the games will be “ad-free with no in-app purchases”.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Ubisoft Forward ended with an extended showcase for Assassin’s Creed, which included a few different reveals. First up, they officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which leaked a couple weeks back. After a cinematic trailer, narrative director Sarah Beaulieu confirmed a lot of the leaks. Primarily, she confirmed that the game will return to the series’ roots, and be more focused on stealth and assassinations and have a narrative focus.

After a 15th anniversary documentary, Ubisoft teased a final expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, dubbed “The Last Chapter”. This will see Eivor leave for “distant shores and new adventures”, with a “free quest-arc” which will resolve and tie-up the game’s loose ends. After this, the showcase had a teaser for a mobile game codenamed Jade. Set in Ancient China, the game will allow you to create your own character.

Next flagship AC entries

The showcase ended with a teaser for the next flagship Assassin’s Creed game. Codenamed Red, the game takes place in feudal Japan where you will play as a shinobi. Following this was an announcement for another flagship title, codenamed Hexe. Ubisoft Quebec, the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, is developing Red, while Ubisoft Montreal is making Hexe.

The final reveal was of Project Infinity, which will be a hub that will tie all the games together. Vice President Marc-Alexis Côté called it a “single entry point” for fans, so it’ll likely be a collection of Assassin’s Creed games to help people get caught up with the series. Here’s the roadmap for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed releases:

Beyond Mirage, there’s no clear release window for the codenamed releases
