EDIT 02/09/2022: Ubisoft has now officially announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage in a Twitter post, saying that more information will be shared at Ubisoft Forward on September 10th.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is the next Assassin's Creed game.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE 01/09/2022: First images were leaked this morning, September 1st, of Assassin’s Creed Mirage by Twitter user Script. This next mainline entry will reportedly “return to basics” with heavy inspiration from the first game in the franchise. Specifically, this means the removal of RPG elements that we’ve seen since Origins in favour of a focus on stealth gameplay. The leaked images corroborate with the information we have on Mirage. Mainly in regards to setting and a return to the classic white hood Assassin look.

According to a Bloomberg article published back in February, Ubisoft originally planned Mirage as a DLC for AC Valhalla. The game stars Basim, a character from Valhalla, and is set in 9th century Baghdad. Additionally, the setting aligns with the other leaked image for the game, which seems to be for an extra pre-order quest.

This is a reference to Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, a famous story in Iraqi folklore and one included in the text One Thousand and One Nights, better known in English as Arabian Nights. Given the Baghdad setting of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, an additional sidequest based on Iraqi folklore fits right in.

Remaking the Creed

Other rumours circulating around the game suggest a potential remake of Assassin’s Creed 1. YouTuber j0nathan makes this claim, stating that Ubisoft will reuse assets made for Mirage in the remake. However, journalist Jason Schreier has noted his skepticism on this claim after confirming other leaks.

There’s a strong chance that Ubisoft will officially reveal Assassin’s Creed Mirage during their Ubisoft Forward presentation on September 10th.
