The Blue Blur bounces back to theatres in December 2024
Only a few months after the second film’s release, we’ve got a release date for the Sonic 3 Movie! Revealed on the official Sonic Movie Twitter page, the next installment in the franchise is due December 20th, 2024.
Screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller confirmed earlier this year that the next film would aim for a 2024 release. And before that, CEO of Sega Corporation, Haruki Satomi, said that the third Sonic film is in active development. This is alongside a live-action series for Paramount+, which is said to centre around Knuckles.
The third addition to the franchise comes as no surprise given the success of Sonic’s second outing. The film made a total of over $400 million internationally, and broke the record for the best opening weekend of a videogame movie. It also got the highest three-day domestic opening for a Jim Carrey film, beating out Bruce Almighty by roughly 4 million.
As for what this third movie will have in store, the current plans are to focus around Shadow the Hedgehog. This will include incorporating elements from Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow’s own spinoff game.
