Play as anything from Spyro the Dragon to your own cat in these mods for Stray

Stray, the recently-released game about playing as a wayward cat in a robot-populated city, already has a varied modding scene. Released a few weeks ago on July 19th to PlayStation 4, 5, and Steam. PC players can have their pick-of-the-litter with numerous mods that will replace the central feline.
These replacements are varied, from recolours to make the game’s protagonist (purr-tagonist?) closer to your own furred friend. To less serious additions, which include other famous cats like Garfield or Marie from The Aristocats.

However, other cats aren’t the only mods to make it into the game. There are some slightly more cursed additions to the game. For one, you can replace the lead with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas‘ own CJ, who has managed to find his way into a few games. On top of that, you can replace the cat’s meow with Heavy Rain‘s Ethan calling out for his son. You know, in case you got tired of gentle mewing and wanted a man yelling out “Jason!” every few seconds.
You can also go for differing animals, which includes the contrast to the cat: the dog, as well as a completely unrelated creature, the pig (well, the Minecraft version of the pig anyway). What’s more, the mods don’t stop at real creatures either, with Spyro the Dragon also available to take the main stray’s seat.

Of course, there are more mods to Stray than replacing the titular tabby. Modders have been busy at work with implementing splitscreen, a first-person mode, and some graphical upgrades. Once again, all this shows the tenacious and tireless work of mod communities that can bolster games post-launch. And while we already have a wealth of fun additions to the game, it’ll be interesting to see what other merits or monstrosities modders will add to the game.
