Grand Theft Auto 6 is a while off yet, but we do know some details about it

Grand Theft Auto 6 is well into development now, with all hands on-deck at Rockstar Games to finish the game. Being a sequel to the second-best selling game of all time, Rockstar no doubt want to impress with this entry. While we don’t have a concrete release window yet, we do have some details on the upcoming GTA. And by the sound of things, the game is already bigger than we’ve seen from the series so far, and intends to get even bigger.
The World
According to a Bloomberg article, GTA 6 will take place in a “fictional version of Miami” and surrounding areas. This could well mean a return to Vice City, albeit modernised and expanded to adapt to how the series has changed over time. Speaking of changing over time, so too will GTA 6’s world, with Rockstar adding new cities post-launch.
However, this doesn’t mean that the game will be lacking on launch. Sources say that the world is “already large” and has “more interior locations” than prior Grand Theft Autos. So, there’ll be plenty to explore in the new Vice City.
The Characters
Grand Theft Auto 6, like its predecessor, will have multiple playable characters. However, unlike GTA V, it looks like we’ll be getting a pair this time ’round. Also unlike GTA V, one of the playable characters is a female, a first for 3D entries in the series. She is reportedly a latina and one of two leading characters that take influence from Bonnie & Clyde, the infamous bank-robbing couple.
This news comes alongside some good reports of Rockstar rectifying their company culture. Starting in 2018 when staff called out the company for a culture of crunch, bullying, and inappropriate behaviour. Rockstar has since cleaned up its act, with one employee referring to it as “a boys’ club transformed into a real company”. This reform has lead to a better general awareness from the studio, with the removal of transphobic jokes from GTA V and the new female protagonist being a direct result of these changes.
The Release Date
No release date or definite window has been given yet. However, the word from the devs is that the game is at least two years away. Production of the game has reportedly been “slower than expected”, which has mainly been put down to the pandemic and the company getting “accustomed to working at this new Rockstar”. However, the changes have given a massive boost to morale, so production on GTA6 will likely speed up from here.
