Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves looks to bring wild roleplaying antics to the big screen
San Diego Comic Con kicked off last night with a new trailer reveal for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The movie follows a typical ragtag D&D party in their attempt to save the world. That is, after they inadvertantly help to destroy it. The trailer shows the film as a standard heist movie, but with an added D&D flair. That means a wealth of fantasy creatures, threats, and items flavoured with a chaotic main group trying their best.
Starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head and Hugh Grant, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves looks to adapt the manic nature of playing D&D with friends well. From accidentally unleashing an unspeakable evil to slapdash, half-thought-through plans to progress. All the hallmarks of a standard D&D game are here. This also includes a balanced team of a berserker, knight, mage, druid, and bard.
The film’s directors and some of the central cast were at SDCC to do a panel on the movie. According to directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, their aim was a balance of tense scenes and levity. Rolling Stone describes one such scene shown to the panel audience where the main cast have to reanimate the dead in order to ask them questions about their quest. As they do, they make various blunders in their line of questioning and find out some of the humorous ways these ghouls died.
The film is set to release on March 3rd, 2023. Check out the full trailer down below:
