It’s officially been announced that Sony have finalised their deal to buy Bungie.

The deal that cost Sony $3.6bn saw them acquire the Halo and Destiny creator for any future projects would now be on PlayStation instead of whereas all previous Bungie titles were Xbox exclusives with Jim Ryan (Sony Boss) saying the move was to expand the reach of PlayStation to a wider audience. Mostly Halo fans who only owned PlayStation consoles.

The agreement to acquire Bungie has closed. So now we can officially say… welcome to the PlayStation family, @Bungie! pic.twitter.com/x5jVmelaxl

In a tweet, PlayStation welcomed Bungie to the powerful line-up of developers that make games for the system. Bungie replied with “We are proud to officially join the incredible team at PlayStation, we are excited for the future of our company, and we are inspired to bring together players from all over the world to form lasting friendships and memories, Per Audacia ad Astra!” (Last bit is Latin for: through adversity to the stars)

“Per Audacia ad Astra!”

“through adversity to the stars”

What does this mean?

Well Bungie has been a Microsoft only developer for the longest time (2002 to be more exact) but looking forward. A new report has claimed that Bungie’s under-wraps work with Chinese publisher NetEase involves a mobile shooter set in the Destiny universe. Obviously, with how mobile games that are part of a beloved series of games, I think people will initially be against such an idea. (Hello Diablo mobile game. “Do you guys even have phones?”)

Are you happy about the new direction Bungie is taking? Or are you a hardcore Halo fan who feels betrayed? Let us know in the comments and join our Discord for more news articles and discussion
