Remake will have overhauled visuals and new music, however Suda51 and James Gunn aren’t involved

Yoshimi Yasuda announced a remake of the 2012 cult classic character-action game Lollipop Chainsaw yesterday, July 5th. Dragami Games, a studio headed by Yasuda, is handling development after purchasing the IP from Kadokawa Games.
Staff who worked on the original game make up this team, however Yasuda has said off the bat that there will be some definite changes. Most notably is new music, as a lot of the original game uses licensed music. As Yasuda says, “the original game had 15 licensed songs… but it is unfortunately difficult for us to implement all of them this time. As a result. aside from a few licensed tracks, the soundtrack will consist of new music”.
Don’t lose your head(s)
Another change from the original is the involvement of Lollipop Chainsaw’s director Suda51 and writer James Gunn, or lack thereof. Following the remake’s announcement, both Gunn and Suda tweeted saying they don’t have a hand in it. Gunn clarifies that he “neither endorses nor condemns” the remake, and just “simply doesn’t know anything about it”. Meanwhile, Suda confirms that his dev team, Grasshopper Manufacture, have no involvement either.
In his message, Yasuda says that the remake has come about due to the fact that “fans can no longer easily play Lollipop Chainsaw”. Released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game hasn’t seen any re-releases or even backwards compatibility for Xbox. Many have speculated that this is because of licencing issues with the in-game music. And the news of the remake changing most licensed tracks all but confirms this.
Still, better late than never, and no doubt many fans of the game will welcome its return. As well as those who didn’t get round to playing it when it first released.
