Sony confirm God of War Ragnarök release date after unfounded fears the game was delayed to 2023

With a new cinematic trailer, Santa Monica Studios confirms God of War Ragnarök release date as November 9th, 2022. The trailer shows Kratos and Atreus fighting against hordes of enemies, as well as a giant wolf. This comes after speculation that a reveal would come last Thursday, June 30th, and fan backlash when that didn’t happen. Much of the speculation theorised that Santa Monica had delayed the game into 2023. However, this new trailer shows that this isn’t the case, at least for now.
As well as the new cinematic trailer is an unboxing video of the game’s Collector’s and Jötnar editions. These include unique goodies, like dwarven dice, “the Legendary Draupnir Ring”, and a 16″ replica of Mjölnir. These goodies come in a box replicating the “knowledge keeper’s shrine”. Alongside these physical bonuses is in-game bonuses which can be gotten on their own with the Digital Deluxe edition of the game. You can check out everything that comes with each edition below:
As always, the release date could still move back due to the unknowable nature of game development. However, at least for now the game is on track for a winter release.
What is harder to ignore was the backlash Santa Monica Studios got for not revealing the release date last week. Thanks to some sources claiming the release date drop would happen June 30th, when the day came and went with no news, some fans took to harrassing Ragnarök’s devs. From clogging up Twitter replies to sending dick pics to female devs.
The attitude of an ardent vocal minority, once again, was an embarrassment for the wider community. Now that the release date is out and confirms what was already all-but confirmed anyway, it only makes the harrassers look even more ridiculous than they already did.
