Netflix shows off stylish intro to the new Cyberpunk show, Edgerunners
First debuted at Anime Expo 2022 in LA, Netflix have shown off the intro to the upcomming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Based off CD Projekt Red‘s Cyberpunk 2077, Edgerunners is a 10-episode series that Netflix announced in 2020. Set in Night City, the series follows a street kid making a living as an “edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk”. The show premieres in September of this year.
The intro is very striking, with Franz Ferdinand’s This Fffire as the backing music. Having a song from 2004 introduce a series set decades into the future might not make sense on the surface. However, it fits Edgerunners’ intro beautifully. You can watch the full intro below:
A lot of talented Cyberpunks
The show has quite a few illustrious names attached to it. Front and centre is Studio Trigger, a Japanese animation studio behind anime like Kill la Kill, Darling in the Franxx, and BNA: Brand New Animal. Meanwhile, Akira Yamaoka is behind the show’s original score, most well known for his work on the original Silent Hill‘s soundtrack. Also on the team is background director Masanobu Nomura, who has done background art for projects like Batman Ninja and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.
So don’t worry Cyberpunk fans, Edgerunners is in very good hands, and this very stylish intro only proves that point. However, if you’re still not convinced, there’s also the official teaser that premiered last month which you can watch below:
