The weeklong speedrunning charity fest has been online-only due to COVID

Summer Games Done Quick is back and in-person for the first time since 2019. Awesome Games Done Quick – SGDQ’s winter companion – was held in person back in January of 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic meant that the following events had to shift to an online-only format.
Summer Games Done Quick and Awesome Games Done Quick are two events that each take place over a week. They showcase speedruns for a cavalcade of games, from beloved classics to lesser known niche games. Usually, the aim of the game is less world records and more showing off these speedruns, with the runners talking through what they’re doing.

There’s a lot to look forward to over the next week. Titles like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Yakuza: Like A Dragon, and Elden Ring will be getting runs. There are also some unique runs, like randomizers for Pokémon Emerald and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, or races of games like Super Mario World, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (2019). And, as always, there are bonus games as incentives for donations. Halo: Infinite, Super Mario 64, and a showcase of the beta version of Ocarina of Time are just a few of the bonus games. You can find the full schedule here.
Despite moving online, the GDQ events from 2020 to 2022 still managed to raise more money year-on-year. Last year’s SGDQ raised over $2.9 million for ‘Doctors Without Borders’, or ‘Médecins Sans Frontières’. Meanwhile, this year’s AGDQ raised over $3.4 million for the ‘Prevent Cancer Foundation’, marking the third time a GDQ event passed $3 million in donations.

You can catch all the action of Summer Games Done Quick on the SGDQ’s Twitch channel. Having started yesterday, June 26th, it will run until next Sunday, July 3rd.
