Winnie the Pooh horror movie in the works because of course it is

As Winnie-the-Pooh would say: “Oh, bother”

Looks like hunny stopped being good enough for ol’ Pooh Bear

Everyone’s favourite silly old bear is getting a horror reimagining according to an iMDB page that has cropped up. Called Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the iMDB page has pictures, a cast list, and a tagline. “A horror retelling of the famous legend of Winnie the Poo.” (Not my typo, that’s how the tagline spells ‘Pooh’)

Disney‘s sole rights over Pooh Bear and pals ended in January of this year. While they still own their version of him, E.H. Shepard’s original design is free game, as is the name. So really, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to use Winnie-the-Pooh in a horror setting.

They could have been onto a real good comedy slasher here if they kept Pooh at his original size

There is currently no information on any release date nor any deeper plot synopsis outside of “Winnie-the-Pooh but horror”. From the pictures, however, the film is looking to be a slasher where a group of teenagers/young adults are set upon by murderers whose masks are meant to mock the denizens of Hundred Acre Woods.

So far, the stills show grotesque Pooh and Piglet masks, so it’s unclear if any other characters will appear. Possibly not, given that those other characters may still be under Disney copyright since the books introduced them later. The iMDB casting list also only shows Winnie and Piglet at the moment.

Maybe my memory’s failing me, but I don’t remember Piglet having tusks

Perhaps this movie will be the first in a line of reimaginings for the 1926 version of Pooh Bear. Or, maybe, Disney will find something they can use to sue the movie (like the unhyphenated name) and shut it down. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how Winnie the Pooh gets on with a sledgehammer and murderous intent.

You can find the rest of the stills here:
