Netflix has released a trailer for its new series, First Kill! The streaming service shared both the trailer and poster for the series on Thursday 12th May. First Kill sees Two high school students, Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Calliope (Imani Lewis) developing a romantic relationship. Albeit with some complicated secrets involved.
Netflix’s First Kill brings some much-needed variety to the paranormal romance genre that dominated young adult shelves in the mid-2000s. In this version of the vampire-meets-human romance, however, both of the partners are girls, and one of them is a supposed slayer of the other. In the trailer, Juliette (Hook) and Calliope (Lewis) discover that Juliette is a vampire and Calliope is a monster hunter, and they begin to develop a complicated relationship.
“Teenage vampire Juliette sets her sights on a new girl in town Calliope for her first kill. But much to Juliette’s surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter. Both find that the other won’t be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for,”
Official Synoposis from Netflix
First Kill is based on a short story by Victoria “V.E.” Schwab. The series will also star Elizabeth Mitchell, Will Swenson, Aubin Wise, Jason Robert Moore, Gracie Dzienny, and Dylan McNamara. The series was created by Schwab, who also serves as writer and executive producer with showrunner Felicia D. Henderson.
Despite the drama of two families literally at each other’s throats like a vampire Romeo and Juliet, the series looks like it will have plenty of laughs and pathos to boot.
Moreover, the movie is also ripe for American racial and class commentary, pitting a Black family that fights for survival against a rich white family that consumes human blood. The best kind of gay monster is one that has a point to make about systemic injustice!
