Yesterday, Ubisoft announced that development of the Prince of Persia Remake will be handed over to Ubisoft Montreal.
From what we can gather from this post, it seems the team had problems with the scale of the undertaking. As such, the Montreal team have decided to re-evaluate the plans for development, which may be a sign that progress on the game is still at a very early stage despite the game being announced 2 years ago.
Initial reception to this announcement was lukewarm. Whilst most appreciated that this franchise was being revived, many were disappointed on the rough visuals and unchanged combat. It is possible that The Sands of Time Remake developers had issues with a creative vision.
Now that the game is back in the hands of the studio that made the original game, perhaps we may see stronger direction and artistic vision.

Either way, it is good that some drastic action is being taken by Ubisoft and if anything, it shows that they are serious about making this remake a success.
