The Saints Row series is infamous for its in-depth character customization that lets you go wild with your imagination. A concept that has been woven into the game since the second instalment. Even back then, you could create some impressive lookalikes from any form of media. From Paul Walker to The Joker, and even the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Third game also had this too, a personal selection is John Cena. Watching him mow down Luchadore gangsters feels like I’m watching WWE’s latest and greatest standalone film.

Naturally, the characters looked better as the games progressed, but with the latest Saints Row reboot video talking about customisation, it’s time to see if it will be as in-depth as we’re used to!

First of all, it’s worth mentioning that the video has stated we will be able to customise our Saints HQ. A massive step in the right direction as many players enjoyed the ability to customise the safehouse back when it was a feature in Saints Row 2. Sadly we haven’t seen it done as in-depth since then so hopefully, we will finally see the old feature flushed out and we’re given more options.

It looks (and sounds) like layered clothing is making a grand return. The player (or shall I say ‘Playa’) will also be able to morph the body to make that look however they please. From insane muscle mass to a very wide body. It looks like you will be able to make some wacky characters too. I managed to spot Shrek in the trailer which could be the devs showing off that once again we will be able to make just about anyone we choose to.

You will even be able to customise your lower region too, sadly due to YouTube’s censorship, we couldn’t see how truly in-depth this was in the video so we’ll have to wait and see for that one.

In a quick section, we got to hear that the series tradition of being able to pick your character’s own voice continues!

Eagle-eyed fans will notice the ‘community’ tab which gives us an idea that we just might be able to download and share our weird and creative characters with each other.
The last thing worth mentioning is that the dev team have said that we will be able to craft our characters BEFORE the game even releases. Perhaps we’ll be able to access a website down the line and be able to make our characters there!
Vehicle Customisation

Customising your vehicle is also a thing in this game, which is a relief (looking at you, Cyberpunk!) and it looks like we’ll be able to customise and show off our own unique style in anything that moves. From helicopters to cars, boats and even monster trucks. You’ll be able to customise the colour, livery, wheels, window tint and even make your car faster with upgrades. For the first time, the playa will be able to add patina too. Giving us all the perfect way to make things like rat rods and even barn finds!

I have no idea where this hoverboard fits in but damn I welcome it!
Players will also be able to add unique stuff like wrecking ball wheels, a towing feature and even ejector seats which might come in handy if your ride ever starts to catch on fire. Either way; who had ejector seats and wrecking ball wheels on their Saints Row bingo card?! I know I didn’t!
Guns, guns and more guns!

What’s a Saints Row game without the guns?! This feature seems to be a massive improvement on Saints Row 4’s ‘skin’ selection. You’ll be able to customise any part of your gun in terms of looks and performance. Let’s just hope they don’t have that idiotic feature where you can’t turn off dual-wielding mode that we were stuck with in Saints Row 3 & 4!

it even looks like we’ll have a crossbow to use!

Gang Customisation

To quote the video ‘The Church will become your Saints HQ’ and just like that, lots of fans cheered in unison! It’s like I can hear Julius’ voice again…

Playas will be able to customise the Church by adding in different decor like statues and other lighting. It also looked like we could place pool tables down along with various other objects to truly make our HQ feel like it’s truly ours. Some decor will be tied to gameplay too! Like showing off you found all those hidden packages by displaying the statue of it in your HQ!
Summary

To sum it all up I’d like to say that it appears that previous Saints Row games’ customisation is truly being lived up and even improved upon in some ways! This game is going to be an amazing and wild ride and we’re all anxious to get our hands on this one!

New Saints Row gameplay trailer shows characters, HQ, enemy factions, and more - All Maverick
August 11, 2022 at 12:03 pm[…] Harkening back to the old days of Saints Row 2, this game gives you a headquarters that starts unimpressive and run-down. Instead of 2’s earthquake-destroyed former hotel, this time you’ll have a dilapidated church to fix up. You can transform it from a ruined cathedral to a flashy mansion over the course of the game. And, of course, you can coat the place in royal purple, as is the style of the Saints. In time, you’ll run all your operations out of the place, with garages and armories to store all your cars and weapons. Of course, the base is only one facet of customization, with plenty others already shown off. […]
