Netflix is in Schitt’s Creek as the popular show moves from Netflix to Hulu on October 3rd. Hulu announced its acquisition of the show’s US streaming rights on Thursday, saying that it will become the only place you can stream all six seasons of the show later this year.
Netflix has been suffering a lot of bad news lately, and while Schitt’s Creek’s loss isn’t as bad as the company’s subscriber numbers dropping for the first time in a decade, it’s still not a good sign. Netflix has had difficulty retaining shows such as The Office, Friends, and even Netflix Originals.
Schitt’s history
All primetime Emmy Awards comedy categories were swept by the show in 2020, breaking the record for the most wins by a comedy in a season. Schitt’s Creek centres on an outrageously wealthy video store magnate, Johnny Rose (Eugene Levy); his former soap-star wife Moira (Catherine O’Hara); and their two adult children – the self-described black sheep of the family David (Daniel Levy) and career socialite Alexis (Annie Murphy).
When the family suddenly find themselves broke, they have no choice but to move to Schitt’s Creek, a small-town Johnny once bought as a joke. Forced to live out of a motel, with their pampered lives a distant memory, they struggle to find and keep jobs and relationships and, most importantly, figure out what it means to be a family in the loveable town they’ve reluctantly come to call home.

Based on the number of ‘Schitt’s Creek’ GIFs we Slack every day, it’s no surprise that we are absolutely thrilled to welcome Johnny, Moira, Alexis, ‘Daviiid’ and the wonderfully unique residents of Schitt’s Creek to Hulu.
We can’t wait to share the award-winning, blisteringly-funny, yet heartwarming series and characters with our subscribers. We know they’ll fit in nicely.
Joe Earley, President of Hulu
So far it isn’t looking good for Netflix as their subscribers drop and shows leave so only time will show what will happen with the famous streaming service.
