IFC Films has debuted the full official trailer for Watcher, a stylish Hitchcockian psychological thriller marking the feature debut of talented filmmaker Chloe Okuno. It stars Maika Monroe , Burn Gorman and Karl Glusman.
This is an amazingly chilling trailer, perfectly capturing the tense mood and vibe of the film. The trailer doesn’t give you any false impressions; it immediately pulls you right into the role of its paranoid protagonist.
Maika Monroe plays an American woman that moves into a new apartment in Bucharest, Romania. She moves in with her fiancé, only to be tormented by the feeling she is being stalked by an unseen watcher in an adjacent building. She can’t get anyone to believe her, and no matter what she does the feeling still remains.
Things quickly get worse when she starts noticing the same vague figure following her wherever she goes. Meanwhile, a serial killer known as The Spider stalks the city slashing women’s throats to the point of nearly beheading them. Are these two figures connected?
Chloe Okuno and Zack Ford wrote the screenplay, and the film is produced by Derek Dauchy, John Finemore, Aaron Kaplan, Mason Novick, Sean Perrone, and Steven Schneider. In addition to screening at SXSW, this film premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, 2022. Starting June 3rd, 2022, IFC Films will debut Okuno’s Watcher in select movie theaters and on VOD.

Whilst at the outset the film appears to be a chilling tense time at the movies, it also stands to make a poignant statement about the importance of women believing in themselves and being believed by others when being harassed.
