Blizzard is now accepting pre-registration for the Diablo Immortal PC Open Beta test. Contrary to their original stance, the studio is releasing a PC version of the mobile game with cross-platform multiplayer.
According to Wyatt Cheng, Director of Diablo Immortal, this game is going to be their “most ambitious and biggest Diablo game to date”.
Combat looks largely similar and will feature controller and mouse and keyboard support. The game also supposedly has “deep social systems” and “deep progression systems” that will allow you continuously play and customize your characters.
Wyatt has also confirmed that the game will have a main story that players can progress.

What’s concerning is how there’s a emphasis on the “mobile experience”. The team have described that the game is “built for mobile and it plays like mobile”. As a result, the PC version sounds like an afterthought.
This may mean that game mechanics will be extremely simple for the sake of mobile users. However, to their credit, the reason why a PC version is coming is due to player demand. At the very least it shows Blizzard is somewhat listening to fans.

The recent controversies mean that Blizzard is in a precarious situation. This game needs to succeed to improve company image, player faith and interest in the Diablo franchise itself.
