Over the weekend Rockstar revealed the absolute shameful money grab that is the monthly subscription service GTA+ and fans were quick to voice their opinions on how they feel, an example of which can be found below.
For a channel with 1.4 million subscribers, you could imagine the state of the comment section. Taking the first handful of comments I saw, almost all of them are bashing Rockstar for this new service.

It is scary to see one of the most beloved developers turn into nothing but a shallow corpse of their former glory. Once, Rockstar was a beloved company, praised for the quality of its games and its dedication to the craft. Other than the obvious GTA and Red Dead Redemption fanbase, Rockstar also had fans who were dedicated to other titles like Bully aka Canis Canem Edit, and Midnight Club, proving just how far-reaching and notable both their games and fanbases once were.

For those who don’t know exactly what GTA+ is, it’s a monthly subscription service that wants to milk even more money out of GTA Online. Already a ten-year-old game that’s had its milk go way past its sell-by-date. For around $5.99 (£4.58) a month you can get things like free car liveries, clothing, double XP and even additional money from a Shark card purchase should you make one.
GTA Online is already riddled with microtransactions to the point where this is seriously beyond a joke and some players are just past the point of caring. Most of my friends have said they’re slowly phasing out of the game simply because it’s just become stale. Without big updates, players are seeing this game for what it is: a game that’s past its life cycle. This game has become the family dog that has lived for too long and now it’s ill and slowly just withering away.

It’s not uncommon to see this kind of practice in today’s gaming industry, especially since the success of Fortnite and how much money it makes. It’s scary to see what the future might hold for this as Rockstar have clearly shown that they are willing to milk this cash cow for all its worth and then milk it some more, far beyond the point where it would be simply kinder to shoot the cow in the head. Some fans are a little worried that the future of this service will see the player needing GTA+ to get the latest updated content.
Gamers need to stand together and hold hands, and not buy this product to tell Rockstar that this kind of leeching just isn’t acceptable, even more so for a game we’ve had for ten years. Some people have played this game and driven the streets of Los Santos longer than they’ve been able to speak. The in-game economy is broken and rather than fixing it, the developer would rather just encourage you to purchase some in-game currency. Rockstar certainly no longer cares about the fans and what’s best for them. They just want your money.

For more on just how broken this game is and how greedy the makers are you can find two videos I personally recommend here and here.
