Yesterday, during the Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable, Arc System Works announced that Testament will be joining the Guilty Gear: Strive roster!
Testament is a legacy character that fans have not seen since Guilty Gear X2, a 2003 PS2 title. With Testament and Anji Mito (another legacy character) now being present in the game, perhaps we may see more legacy characters in the future!
Although Testament’s gameplay has been altered to fit Guilty Gear: Strive’s mechanics, fans have noted that this interpretation is still accurate. For context, they used to have access to invisible web traps and instantaneous attacks via curses, which led to oppressive offensive pressure.
Opinions on Testament‘s old gameplay are controversial; some hate them, some don’t mind them.
Testament’s new gameplay in Guilty Gear: Strive bears decent visual and mechanical similarities. Succubae are still used but now act as visible traps, whilst Testament’s new projectiles and summons keep their opponents at bay.

Interestingly, the developers have also taken to describing Testament as genderless, using they/them pronouns. This was something that the developers had not done historically.
Furthermore, Testament’s voice actor is Kayleigh McKee, an accomplished transgender voice actor who has lent great authenticity to Testament’s glamourous demeanor. Personally, I am impressed with this seamless LGBTQ representation of Testament’s updated design.

The announcement also came with the confirmation of cross-platform play. The studio stated that the function will be coming to the game some time in the future, potentially in Season 2.
