Earlier today, Capcom held a Monster Hunter Rise Digital Event, showcasing the new additions that will be coming to Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, which is set to release on June 30, 2022.
The stream showed off new monsters, new zones, new gameplay changes as well as the preorder, Amiibo and deluxe edition bonuses.
A brave new world!
Sunbreak will take place in a completely new setting outside of Kamura. Leaving behind the traditional Japanese village, your character sets off to the Elgado Outpost, a colourful Port Town laden with steam machinery.
On top of important facilities such the blacksmith and canteen, the outpost contains a command room akin to the one in Seliana in Monster Hunter Iceborne. Here, important characters such as Fiorayne and Admiral Galleus (or as I personally call him Admiral Gigachad) will work with you to uncover the mystery of the ‘Monster Abnormalities‘.
Furthermore, players will be roaming The Citadel when hunting. This locale is features a variety of biomes and environments, from ancient castle ruins, to lush forests and frosted mountains.

New monsters to hunt!
Of course, let’s not forget the name of this game because Capcom surely has not! We have another 3 new monsters coming to the expansion, alongside new variants of existing monsters; one of which is a fan favourite!
To preface, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak has taken a unique approach to its flagship monster(s). Where typically, you would have a single monster to act as the major antagonist or hunt of the game, Sunbreak will have 3.
The Malzeno (pictured: middle) was already previously announced, but now 2 more shall share the spotlight.

Garangolm is a hard-shelled Brute Wyvern, reminiscent of Duramboros from older monster hunter games. This behemoth has hard-hitting, large radius slam attacks and an arsenal of both fire and water imbued fists. Its domination over strength and nature befits its regal demeanour.
Stay on your toes when on this hunt, or it’ll be certain that you’ll be staying on the floor.

Lunagaron is a Fanged Wyvern that bears a striking resemblance to the Odogaron from Monster Hunter World. Yet, despite its visual similarities, Lunagaron’s attacks and abilities differ from its cousin. It has a mastery over the element of ice, using it to empower its armour, claws and breath attacks.
Swift and plenty deadly, this is one promises to be a cold-blooded killer.

Finally, the beloved Astalos makes a triumphant return! A Flying Wyvern from Monster Hunter Generations, this beast is the embodiment of lightning. In its most recent iteration, it was capable of creating large electrical explosions that could paralyze unlucky (or unskilled) hunters via its tail.
Fans of Generations assure us that this will be an electrifying fight!
New tools of the trade!
In the wake of this new threat, hunters need to adapt to overcome. The trailer showed off some new weapon “switch skills” and a new Palamute weapon!

Ryozo Tsujimoto, producer of the game, also mentioned that weapons will also be balanced in expansion. This is was long overdue as many fans felt that some weapons were underwhelming compared to others (*cough* longsword *cough*).
Bonus goodies!
Capcom is also offering a pre-order bonus and has announced new Amiibos and a digital deluxe edition to be released in conjunction with the game!
The digital deluxe edition will include several exclusive cosmetic items, most notably the Dragonsbane Hunter layered armour, a Victorian-esque outfit armed with a pistol, sabre and fancy hat. As for pre-order rewards, players can look forward to an adorable set of costumes for their palico and palamute companions.
The Amiibos look well painted and sculpted. Notably, the bronze gradient on Malzeno’s wings are a great touch and would make this a fine display piece. They also come with sinister red and black costumes for yourself and your hunting companions!
