Today, Korean mobile game developer Netmarble announced that they will be releasing an open world RPG based on the popular anime, Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai 七つの大罪). The company has stated that the game will be releasing on mobile, PC and consoles, though no confirmation has been given on which consoles nor if there will be cross-platform gameplay and cross-saving.
The game will supposedly feature an original story with a new protagonist and full exploration, as you explore the land of Britannia straight from the manga and anime!
The combat will be action-based and gameplay will feature some role-playing aspects, as not only is the player required to quickly react to telegraphed incoming attacks and swiftly assault the enemy with a combination of spells and blades, but they are also seemingly expected to set some time aside and gather materials for possibly food and crafting.

As I’m sure some of you have noticed, the game is extremely reminiscent of Genshin Impact, from the vibrant yet minimalistic art style, to the action combat that emphasizes on elemental combinations, character switching and similar effect animations.

However, in Seven Deadly Sin’s defense, there seems to be some variation and expansion on exploration mechanics via the use of character abilities to traverse obstacles!
Quality-wise the gameplay looks solid with smooth frames, decent combat complexity and varied character roster. The only concern that the gaming community has is the notoriety of Korean studios miring their game in microtransactions and ‘gacha’ mechanics for obtaining characters and gear (lucky-draw system). As no other details have been announced, it’s unknown how Netmarble will monetise the game, but so far things look promising.
What do you think of the gameplay? Are you a fan of the anime? Are you also concerned about the monetisation? Go wild with your thoughts in the comment box!
