Since learning of Netflix’s commission of a live-action Pokemon series, many different ideas have been thrown around regarding how the show will be structured. Will it be a continuation of Detective Pikachu or a straight-up adaption of the anime? Regardless of how the show manifests, this is certainly an exciting opportunity for new ideas and elements to grace the franchise. Here are five things I’d like to see in the show!

Idea Number One: LGBTQ+ Representation!
More diversity. By this, I mean the idea of having the lead character be within the LGBTQ+ spectrum! Personally, though, I have to say I’d love to see a transgender main character! Especially since my own coming out story used Pokemon as a reference. I’m also wanting a gay or lesbian couple to be the series’ main pairing romantically but overall I’m not too fussed on the what and am more interested in just seeing more diverse characters and also storylines!

Idea Two: Inside of a Pokeball
My Second Idea is that we finally get a look at the inside of a Pokeball! Something that I’m sure we’ve all wondered about is ‘What exactly do they do in there?’ Well, I think it’s finally time that decade-old question was answered! Perhaps the series could take centre stage on a certain Pokemon’s life, from being caught in the wild to its first time inside a Pokeball to becoming used to battling other Pokemon!

Idea Three: Eevee, lots and lots of Eevee!!
This Third idea is an obvious one which is that a new Pokemon takes centre stage. I’ve opted for Eevee as my prime example because just look at that cute live-action face! Plus, I would never say no to seeing the various live-action Eeveelutions! With Pikachu having had its own movie I think we should rule out the electric mouse as the lead Pokemon which paves the way for Eevee, a Pokemon that appeals to casual fans because once again, look at the cute little face! Following on from this, it would be cool to see this particular Eevee be very similar to the manga and have the ability to change between various Eeveelutions; I did some research and found a Reddit discussion on this for those interested! Having Eevee be the main Pokemon for this series is honestly a no brainer!

Idea Four: Legendary Pokemon
One thing that was painfully clear in Detective Pikachu was the absence of actual legendary Pokemon. Sure, there were easter eggs of things like statues of Arceus, Palkia and Dialga but other than that we didn’t actually see any legendary ‘Mon’s other than MewTwo (We’ll get to him soon!) which is a great shame as Pokemon has an overwhelming amount of Legendaries to chose from. Each of them has its own story and reasons for its existence too but I think we should go all the way back and educate the new viewers on some of the original legendaries like the three legendary birds for example!

Idea Five, Mew!
My final idea almost intertwines with the one above. I’d like to see Mew heavily featured in this series! Mew isn’t really a legendary Pokemon but they did use Mew’s DNA to make Mewtwo. It’s said that Mew is one of the original Pokemon and all Pokemon descended from them, so why not show this? Show us the Pokemon evolution from the very first to the current day! This idea could easily be applied to some kind of prologue for the first episode but it’s something I’d like to see regardless. Besides, who won’t want to see Mew as a main Pokemon or even an ongoing mystery throughout the series which somehow leads to one of the last ever Mew’s?!
