With this, I am finally wrapping up my own coverage of the Game Awards. For those who read my initial after thoughts, you’d know that Star Wars Eclipse and Star Trek Resurgence were the only premieres that caught my eye, so I (very excitedly) took the whole weekend after the Game Awards looking into this one more than ever.
Any Trekkie can tell you that we have had a long wait since the last video game. Four years to be exact if we’re going by console games! This is a very long time given how big the Trek name is and the wide universe developers would have access to. Star Trek Legends has to be the only decent Star Trek game we have had since the launch of Star Trek Online (Which is still seeing updates and well worth the download.) It’s nice to finally be granted a new Trek game!

So, what do we know about Star Trek Resurgence? Well for one, we know that it’s being developed and published in independence by Epic Games along with Dramatic Labs; an independent collaboration of 20+ former Telltale writers, developers, designers, artists, and producers. It will be set in the time period after the Star Trek: The Next Generation films and will feature its own unique crew with a few cameos from some fan favorites like Spock (what Star Trek game would be complete without him?!)

The gameplay will be similar to the usual Telltale experience, or as StarTrek-Resurgence.com said.
“a narrative adventure game featuring dialog choices, relationship building, and exploration. Alongside dialog-driven role playing and rich branching storylines, you will also engage with the Star Trek universe in a variety of other gameplay styles, including shuttle piloting, phaser fights, tricorder scanning, stealth, and micro-gameplay mechanics.”

The last piece of detail on Star Trek Resurgence is that it won’t see any multiplayer elements or microtransactions either. With the current release date set to be Spring 2022 don’t be too shocked that this could change given the state of the gaming industry and its need to pushback games for more developmental and polishing time.

So, in the rather long wait what can you play if you’re a Star Trek fan? Well if you haven’t already downloaded Star Trek Online then I highly recommend it. It’s a free game that can be downloaded from the Xbox and Playstation stores. It features a lot of original plotlines along with some returning faces like Nog, Seven of Nine, Michael Burnham, Gabriel Lorca, Tom Paris, Tuvok, and many more.

Sadly, that’s all we currently know about Star Trek Resurgence. Are you excited about it? Let us know in the comments below or better yet join our Discord Server to talk directly to us! Be sure to stick with All Maverick for all of your gaming & entertainment news.
