At the Tokyo Games Show 2021 earlier today, Capcom revealed that their popular Switch title Monster Hunter Rise is set to arrive on PC by 12th January 2022. That means you’ll be able to buy the game on Steam in just a few months, with a free playable demo just around the corner.
The PC version of Monster Hunter Rise will deliver some important new updates for the platform. These include 4K resolution support, high resolution textures, advanced graphical settings, voice chat, ultrawide support and finally, keyboard and mouse support.
While voice chat wasn’t supported in the Switch edition, you may be pleased to discover that Capcom have decided to include it for PC. This means players will be able to chat not only in the world instances but also in lobbies. I’m a big fan of this addition, as it means less focus on trying to communicate through the limiting quick chat menus and more on the fight itself.
Something that many players (myself included) have queried is whether crossplay will exist between Switch and PC versions of the game. Sadly, it doesn’t seem like there will be; Capcom have been silent on this so far. Hopefully at least they’ll include cross-saves between platforms so that you won’t have to grind another 100 hours for that one attack gem.
At the launch, Capcom announced bonus content crossing over from their rebooted series Ghosts ‘N’ Goblins Resurrection, adding in a new layered armour set as a questline reward. The launch for said crossover is set for October 29th. Capcom have also announced Sonic the Hedgehog crossover content to celebrate Sonic’s 30th Anniversary. Nothing has been revealed about the Sonic content yet, although it’s set to release in November.
Currently pre-order copies of the game offer several DLC bonuses: namely a cosmetic armour set for both player’s Palamute and Palico companions. Also included is a ‘Novice Talisman’ to provide early game assistance to some newer players. If you are interested in picking up these DLC but aren’t keen on pre-ordering then there is a possibility the bonuses will be made available after launch. Although no promises from Capcom here.
Also available for purchase is a Deluxe Edition- together with the base game, it includes multiple layered armour sets, poses, gestures and a bunch of other cosmetics as DLC.
Finally it was announced that Capcom will release Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak; the first proper expansion for the game, available for both Switch and PC versions in Summer 2022. The expansion is expected to include a new basecamp, new monsters and storylines, so that’s something to look forward to.
