We simply can’t get enough adorable platformers about green reptiles, and thankfully Playtonic Friends always delivers the goods. Whilst more well known for publishing the Banjo-Kazooie inspired Yooka-Laylee series, they’re now giving voice to indie developer MegaWobble to bring us Lil Gator game, which is coming to PC & Switch next year!
Utterly adorable doesn’t even begin to describe this cutesy platformer, as Lil Gator game puts you in control of a cute little croc wondering a beautifully vibrant landscape. From the trailer, it appears that the game is about the titular Lil Gator trying to get their big sis to come back to the world of imagination and play with them. This story might feel relatable to anyone who’s been the youngest in a family and has struggled to see their older sibling grow older and more distant.
However, this game seems to be thoroughly light-hearted all the way through, having you explore a vast colourful world of adventure; swimming, gliding, climbing, sliding, pot breaking, all the adventure game tropes are here but all presented in a perfectly captivating fashion. You can’t help but utter an ‘aw’ when seeing a tiny alligator using a wooden sword and shield to batter cardboard cut-out monsters or sit down next to his Froggy friend.

Playtime and child-like wonder seem to be the defining themes of this adventure, with wooden toys and obstacles being the constant element strewn about the world’s challenges. Not to mention the very Yoshi’s Crafted World style whistle in the game’s trailer music; wherever there’s a cute green lizard, a high-pitched windpipe is never too far behind! Playing platformers already makes most of us feel like kids again so this game seems set to be a nostalgic overload of pure childish joy!
Under development by brand new indie team MegaWobble, Lil Gator Game is built around the idea of uninterrupted exploration and child-like whimsy with a story not about noble heroes who changed the world or of wicked anti-heroes who learn the error of their ways but of heroes who learn to be better friends without ever losing their heart of gold.
Employ a packed tool-box of toys & abilities to explore a giant play park spread across an island setting as you guide the Lil Gator as he climbs, jumps, glides and flings himself from adventure to adventure, new friend to new friend.
We can’t wait to get a taste of this game ourselves when a demo releases next week as part of Steam Next Fest. We may also see more of it this week when it appears in the Indie Land event on the 25th of September 25th!
