It’s been around a year since we last received any updates about the development status of Deltarune Chapter 2.
Deltarune (an anagram of Undertale) is an episodic role-playing game series being developed by Toby Fox. In the story the player controls Kris, a human living in a town inhabited by monsters. Kris and their classmate Susie fall into the ‘Dark World’ through their school’s supply closet. It is here in the Dark World that they meet Ralsei, and learn they are the heroes prophesied to save the world.
Undertale was Toby Fox’s first ever game, which reached international success when it was released back in September 2015. Recently Undertale celebrated its 6th anniversary via livestream. At the end of the stream and once the hosts had finished playing through the first instalment, the end game credits rolled as normal.
At the end of the sequence however, a menu option for ‘Continue to Chapter 2’ was available. It was through this that viewers were given the surprise announcement that Deltarune Chapter 2 is to be released this Friday- as well as a gameplay sneak peek.
Chapter 1 of the game was released back in 2018 and there hasn’t been much in the way of updates since a blog post from Fox published last year.

Q: How do I ensure my save file from Chapter 1 carries over to Chapter 2?
A: Completion data is generated when you see the credits of Chapter 1. (Go to sleep in your bed at the end of the game.)
Q: I’m on a different computer from the one I played Chapter 1 with. Can I play Chapter 2?
A: You can play Chapter 2 without save data from Chapter 1. As long as you generally remember what happened story-wise, you’ll be fine.
Q: So is Chapter 2 the rest of the game? This is it!?
A: There are planned to be more chapters than Chapter 2. However, we’ve only completed Chapter 2 so far, so please be patient.
From the official announcement, it looks like the second instalment of Deltarune will initially only release on PC and Mac, with Switch and PlayStation fans left in the dark for now. In the meantime if you haven’t played Chapter 1 then you can download it for free on PC, Mac, PlayStation and Switch.
