Well, this certainly wasn’t on my 2021 Bingo card…
But yes, you’ve read correctly, the Nintendo Switch Exercise Videogame Fitness Boxing will be receiving its own anime series in Japan this year.
The series will be airing this October on Tokyo MX and will centre around the series’ cast of fitness trainers and their adventures of….doing….fitness… presumably. No concrete plot details have been revealed just yet, but hopefully, it shan’t just be a serialised version of instructors telling chubby gamers to jab to the beat of Despacito.
As surprising as it is to see a fitness game turned Anime, the original Fitness Boxing back in 2018 was a commerical success; selling over a million copies on the Switch. Its sequel, Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise took the franchise’s total sales to 1.5 million units as of January 2021.

Given the sudden surge of sales for Ring Fit Adventure following the Global pandemic, it’s not too hard to believe that Fitness Boxing received similar popularity with the world being forced to stay indoors.
Morita to Jumpei, director of the 2018 anime musical Lost Song is taking the helm of writing this new Fitness Boxing series. The games’ developer, Imagineer is handling the animation for the show, and the games’ voice cast are also returning to reprise their roles as the assorted intrsuctors.
While it is uncertain as to whether this series will ever receive a dub or even a subbed release over in the West, the sheer commercial success of the games mixed with the bizarre novetly of the anime’s existence might just be enough to sway it our way too.

Are you hoping for the anime to be brought to the West? Have you played any of the Fitness Boxing games? Let us know in the comments!
