Persona 5’s Morgana Announced for Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania

Sega’s really trying to stick Persona 5 everywhere now

Well, we’ll be honest…we didn’t completely not see that coming? Morgana the cat from the incredible JRPG Persona 5 was revealed during a trailer for Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live Event.

The Host of the event, Geoff Keighley, had previously announced on Twitter that a new Monkey Ball character would be revealed at the show. He even posted a tweet saying “You won’t believe who’s next to join Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania,” and he was…almost right?

Wednesday, you won't believe who's next to join SUPER MONKEY BALL BANANA MANIA.

Tune into @gamescom Opening Night Live to find out who it is….

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a glorified HD remaster of the first three console Super Monkey Ball games, and is confirmed to contain at least 300 recreated stages from the classic entries.

Morgana will be joining other guest characters such as Sonic, Tails, Beat from Jet Set Radio, and Kiryu from Yakuza. While Morgana’s inclusion may seem shocking to some, given that Persona 5 has already received representation in other Sega games like Sonic Forces, it’s not totally unexpected that Sega would use it’s likeness again.

This isn’t the first time that Sonic, Jet Set Radio, Super Monkey Ball and Persona have been in a game together

While it’s still nevertheless fun to see fan favourite Sega characters get a chance to star in the latest Super Monkey Ball, we may just have to keep on dreaming a little longer to see the likes of Gilius Thunderhead or the Daytona Car in the game.

Ahead of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, Geoff Keighly had also bizarrely teased an image of Hideo Kojima trapped inside a ball. We don’t know whether to be disappointed or relieved that he wasn’t actually the character revealed tonight.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania releases on October 5th on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox X/S and Microsoft Windows! Owners of the deluxe edition will immediately receive special DLC; customisation items, ‘Classic’ Character Skins, a ‘Classic’ soundtrack, and 3 playable characters based on the classic Game Gear, Saturn, and Dreamcast Sega consoles.

It is currently unknown who those classic Sega characters will be, but personally we’d love to see Opa Opa, Nights and Ulala running around in those balls.

Were you as surprised as we were about the reveal? Who do else would you like to see running around in a Monkey Ball? Let us know in the comments!

The line between Official Games and Fan Mods are become ever increasingly blurred
