Brendan Fraser delays chatting to fan so he can play his Switch

The ‘Mummy’ star was caught playing his Switch while a fan waited to talk to him

We’ve all been there; being so engrossed in a videogame that we lose track of who and what’s around us, shutting off the world whilst we rack up a new high score in Tetris, or finally beat that one boss in Dark Souls, but not all of us can say it’s happened while a paying fan is awkwardly waiting to talk to us.

For world-famous actor Brendan Fraser however, such an experience has not only happened but has immediately led to the creation of a new meme.

The internet has worked fast on making memes out of this

Famous for his roles in films like George of the Jungle, The Mummy, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action (where he also voiced Taz the Tasmanian Devil weirdly enough), Brendan Fraser had signed up to a fan meet and greet as part of Galaxycon. As part of the convention, fans could pay for 1-on-1 chats with famous celebrities, or in this case, awkwardly wait for Brendan Fraser to finish playing his game, and then chat.

The fan in question was Youtube user Scott Lawrence, who has now posted the entire conversation in full on his channel. In the video, Fraser is seemingly unaware when Scott joins the call as his eyes are glued to his Switch, but even after Scott says “hi”, Fraser holds up a single finger to gesture that he should have another moment to get some extra playtime in before starting the conversation.

It’s only until after an unseen 3rd voice chimes in that Fraser finally acknowledges the fan and puts down his Switch to start the chat. It’s honestly hard to tell whether Fraser was just so engrossed in the game that he was genuinely oblivious to the fan at first, or whether he was just having a bit of fun as a way to get the conversation going.

Of course, the main question on all our minds is; what game was Brendan Fraser playing? We like to think he was playing himself in The Mummy Returns for PS2.

The Mummy Returns on PS2, by no means a good game, but it does let you play as Brendan Fraser

I fear that we may never know, but one thing we do know is that he does indeed have a “Fraser” label on the back of his Switch so that everyone knows that it’s definitely his. Sources are unsure whether this is due to his previous Switches having been stolen or whether it was given to him by his Mum. Either way, it’s unbearably adorable!

Brendan Fraser once again reminds us why he is forever a global international treasure in all of our hearts!

What game do you think Brendan Fraser was playing on his Switch? Let us know in the comments!
