In a surprise upload, today Sega has officially released the first part of Sonic Colours: Rise of the Wisps, a 2-part animated short that acts as a side-story to the game Sonic Colours Ultimate, an enhanced edition of the 2010 Wii game Sonic Colours.
Sega announced this short animated series alongside Sonic Colours Ultimate back during the Sonic Central stream in May earlier this year, which celebrated Sonic’s 30th anniversary. The cartoon was made to promote the game as well as to officially introduce the Jade Wisp, one of the new additions coming to Sonic Colours Ultimate that wasn’t in the original game.
Part 1 of the 2-part series is now free to watch on YouTube and all other official Sonic The Hedgehog Social Media accounts!
This is now the 3rd animated series that Sega has released to coincide with the release of a modern sonic game, following Sonic Mania Adventures to accompany Sonic Mania Plus in 2018, Team Sonic Racing Overdrive to accompany Team Sonic Racing in 2019, and now Sonic Colours: Rise of the Wisps in 2021.
Sonic Colours Ultimate will launch September 7th on Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One and PS4, although players who opt for the Digital Deluxe version of the game will instead receive the game on September 3rd.

Sonic Colours Ultimate is an enhanced version of Sonic Colours featuring new power-ups, cosmetics, challenges and bonuses’. As Sonic, you must blast your way through Dr. Eggman’s Interstellar Amusement Park, rescuing Alien Wisps in order to gain new abilities.
Given that Sonic Colours is still regarded as one of the best 3D Sonic games, this new enhanced port looks to be a great game to speed through for Summer!
