Hellraiser’s Pinhead teased to be coming to Dead by Daylight

A fan mock-up of Pinhead’s upcoming appearance in Dead by Daylight

According to a trailer uploaded to the Chinese Dead by Daylight account, the next playable killer coming to the popular Horror game is none other than the iconic Pinhead from the Hellraiser series of Horror films.

For those unaware, Dead by Daylight is a Multiplayer Action Survival Horror game where players are tasked with being either a survivor or a savage killer trying to kill the former. Alongside a cast of original characters, the game has increasingly added characters from various famous Horror Film and Game franchises, from Nightmare on Elm Street, to Silent Hill, Scream, and seemingly now, Hellraiser.

The teaser, as seen on the Deady by Daylight Twitter, showed a TV playing a VHS tape. The TV flickers and shows something red before turning off, with the date in the corner of the screen showing “1987”; the year the original Hellraiser film came out.

Initially, fans were split as to whether the trailer was teasing a character from Hellraiser or a character from the Horror videogame series Five Nights at Freddys. The reason for this being the significance of “1987” potentially relating to “The Bite of 87” which is an important element of the Five Nights at Freddy’s lore.

Fans took to Reddit to discuss who the next killer could be and to settle the debate. Firstly, audio files from the Dead by Daylight Discord were sourced and then arranged on a spectrogram in order to spell the word “Hell” (implying that there is indeed some to be “raised”). Next, letters released by the game developers were seen to spell out the word Hellraiser with only a few letters. Finally, one fan discovered that the trailer that was released on the Chinese Dead by Daylight account featured text reading “DBD__Hellraiser_Teaser_FINAL_with_sound”.

With that, the debate was ultimately ended as Pinhead is now undoubtedly the next character headed for the game.

Are you excited about Pinhead joining the roster of Killers? Are you upset that it didn’t turn out to be a certain Freddy Fazbear? Do you still play Dead by Daylight? Let us know in the comments below!
