What year is this? Yes, you’ve read correctly. Despite the fact that it hasn’t received a new physical game since 2019, Nintendo’s 3DS handheld system has just received a new system update.
As revealed by the Japanese Nintendo customer support Twitter account, Update Version 11.15.0-47 is now Live for 3DS owners to download.
It’s just as well that Nintendo announced this update since we doubt many people have touched their 3DS’ since the dawn of the Switch in 2017. Furthermore, rumours have recently been circulating that Nintendo is planning to close all 3DS services!
The 3DS hasn’t received support from Nintendo since 2019, with their last game for the console being Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn. The last 3rd Party game (making it the last 3DS game overall) to be released for the system was a simple downloadable title called Maze Breaker 4. Since then Nintendo has focused all its attention on the Switch which given its portable nature has made the 3DS more or less redundant.

There are currently no notes on what exactly this update is for, but the last time the 3DS received an update was in November 2020 which was just for system stability.
Could this update just be further improvements for stability for the remaining 3DS users out there or is there more excitement on the horizon? Do you even still play your 3DS? Let us know in the comments!
