Day of the Chytrids

With its most recent Kickstarter campaign now halfway towards completion and with over £3,000,000 pledged so far it’s safe to say Awaken Realms latest game is destined for success, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing, however, with Awaken Realms deciding to move their stretch goals to an ‘every other day’ release schedule some backers have felt somewhat underwhelmed by the current offerings, especially with such a high amount of money being collected.

However, that might all be about to change. The Chytrids have just been announced, a plant-based alien life form that will form the latest series of stretch goals. These monsters promise to play very differently from anything we’ve seen before, with Game Designer Adam Kwapiński excited at the prospect of these creatures…

I saw spiked creepers that can entangle you or hit you. So I thought, why shouldn’t we create one enormous Queen with a couple of tendrils by her side but with the possibility to send them to other rooms to attack players?  This additionally works well with a race with limited mobility. You can’t meet a big, evolved creature in an unabsorbed room – but you may encounter a dangerous tendril that is coming after you from vents or open doors.

Exciting stuff! I for one can’t wait to try my hand against this deadly beast and don’t forget if you own the original Nemesis the Chytrids are also fully compatible with that copy of the game.

If you haven’t checked out Nemesis Lockdown then make sure you give it a look, the original game is one of my favourites, it really is as close to the movie Alien as you’re likely to find.
